End of Season 3

L 226 - 168 @HOMO E-REX-TUS

Pack it in, folks.

QB: For round 1, week 2, I started Matt Ryan, who didn't disappoint. He threw for 224 yards and 3 scores before being rested in the 3rd quarter. Opponent played Detroit's Matt Stafford, who threw for 391 and 4.

RB: With both Matt Forte and DeMarco Murray injured, Arian Foster lined up with Shonn Greene and recent addition Marion Barber. The latter two ran for 100 yards combined, and A. Fo added 100 yards on the ground, 60 through the air, and a TD. My opponent played Reggie Bush, who ran for 200 yards and a TD.

WR: Roddy White had a big day; 10 catches for 130 yards and 2 scores.

But it all added up to a first round ousting for my best fantasy team yet. And so Season 3 comes to a close. I look forward to keeping this blog, and as many of the same players, next year. See you all then.

Historically Rare Playoff Post

My first playoff post. Playoff posts will remain rare, from the looks of it.

In the League of Bros., each round of the playoffs takes into account two weeks worth of player stats. Round 1, in which I'm losing 88 - 122 to the team HomoE-Rex-Tus, includes stats from weeks 13 and 14 of the NFL season. Final stats will be reported next week.

With Matt Forte still on the bench and backup DeMarco Murray hurting his right ankle in play this week, I suddenly have a shortage of RBs.

Hopefully I will have a glorious comeback to relate when I return. If not, which is to say if I lose and thus do not return to the blog until next year - well, then, this - my winningest fantasy season to date, ...

Let's not say goodbye just yet, amigos!

10 - 3

W 106 - 80 @Houston B0N3RZ

Matt Forte, the glorious back I last week called "my best hope for a championship," sprained his MCL and will be out for the first round of the fantasy playoffs.

QB: Bonus thing I said last week: "Cam Newton is a stud." Newton rushed for 3 TDs, added 1 through the air, plus 250 total yards. Rarely mentioned Win: 26 points

RB: Guess who else rushed for 3 TDs? Shonn Greene. From my bench. Forte going down in the 1Q didn't help. Loss: 27 points

WR: When you make the kind of judgements I did in preparing my line-up this week, you don't very often win. Pierre Garcon caught for 150 yards and a TD, which is the same starters Roddy White and Victor Cruz did together. Loss: 16 points

ON THE BENCH WEEK 14: Matt Forte (sprained MCL). Rest TBD.

9-3

W 114 - 60 @Philadelphia Eagles Hater

Devotees will note this is the most wins for a fantasy team of mine in the 3 years since the beginning of recorded time.* At 1352, this year's point total too is my career high and the League high. Oh, and this is the first year I'll be making the PLAYOFFS.

QB: Both my QBs out-threw starter Cam Newton this week. Mark Sanchez threw 4 TDs. Matt Ryan threw 262 yards and 3 of his own stingers. Newton wasn't bad; 208 yards, 0 INTs and a rushing TD - It all goes back to the beginning: You gotta play your studs. Cam Newton is a stud and he's gonna get the starts from now on, come hell or high water. Loss: 3 points

RB: Foster, Forte, and Murray combined for 301 total yards and 1 TD. Shonn Greene was better than Matt Forte, but not by enough to justify the risk it would have been to bench the best running back in the game of football, and my best hope for a championship. Loss: 1 point

TE: Ultra rare tight end post! Jermaine Gresham caught a TD and Jason Witten didn't. Loss: 8 points

ON TH BENCH WEEK 13: Shonn Greene, Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez, Deoin Branch, Jermaine Gresham, Pierre Garcon, Packers D/ST

8-3

L 113 - 138 @CXXn NXXers

In a showdown for first place in the East Division, and with its star RB out on Bye, a team leaves everything on the field, and it isn't enough.

RB: An OK game from Matt Forte (70 all purpose yards) just wasn't enough to make up for Arian Foster's absence this week. Sadly, my bench offered no answers either.

WR: Can't ask much more from these boys - Victor Cruz caught 6 balls for 128 yards and a TD, and Roddy White caught 10 for 120 and one of his own.

D/ST: This category makes the front page less and less, but the 49ers D intercepted 3 passes and forced 2 fumbles this week, subsequently giving up only 7 points and leaving me thoroughly impressed.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 12: Matt Ryan, Shonn Greene, Deion Branch, Jermaine Grisham, Pierre Garcon, Packers D/ST, Mark Sanchez

8-2

W 114 - 35 @Lethal Weapon 5

Goodness gracious, has it been that long?

QB: Cam Newton had a rare off week, threw for 200 yards and 1 INT, and fumbled. Both Matt Schaub and Matt Ryan were better; they together threw for 500 yards, with 5 total TDs. Loss: 10 points

RB: To the detriment of this blog, my RBs continue to save me from reporting mistakes. I've struck a penchant recently for lumping statistics into big piles, so let's say here Arian Foster, Matt Forte, and DeMarco Murray combined for 400 yards and 4 TDs this week.

WR: Roddy White didn't catch a TD. Deion Branch did. Loss: 5 points

ON THE BENCH WEEK 11: Arian Foster (bye), Matt Ryan, Matt Sanchez*, Deion Branch, Jermaine Gresham, Pierre Garcon, Packers D/ST

*Matt Schaub (HOU) sustained a shoulder injury in week 10, is out for the season, and was dropped from the team in favor of Sanchez - the highest rated available free agent.

7-2

W 111 - 65 @Todd's Ch0ad

QB: With regular starter Cam Newton home on bye this week, "back-up" Matt Ryan was more than serviceable, throwing for 275 and 3 TDs.

RB: Arian Foster and the usually mighty Matt Forte combined for 300 all-purpose yard and a score (Foster's). SHP DeMarco Murray instead of Shonn Greene. Loss: 10 points

WR: Roddy White and recent acquisition Victor Cruz both helped their teams to wins on Sunday, but neither receiver scored. Receivers on my bench were abysmal (5 catches for 40 yards combined) - but who's complaining? I've won 7 weeks in a row.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 10: Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, Deion Branch, Pierre Garcon, Jermaine Gresham, Shonn Greene, 49ers D/ST

Thursday, November 3, 2011

6-2

W 99 - 90 @Homo E-Rex-tus

"How to weather a perfect-storm grade Bye Week situation and sneak away with a win"

QB: Cam Newton threw for 290 yards and 3 TDs and, as if that wasn't enough, added 50 yards on the ground. Enjoyable, watching that young man succeed.

RB: Arian Foster was on his own with Matt Forte and Shonn Greene sharing the Bye Week: He carried the ball 33 times for 112 yards and a TD. The Cowboys' DeMarco Murray was less impressive, but then again I needed all the points I could get.

WR: Victor Cruz (NYG) caught a long TD pass, Deoin Branch added one of his own, and Pierre Garcon caught for 66 yards as I managed to win for the 6th week in a row.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 9: Cam Newton (bye), Matt Ryan, Deoin Branch, Jermaine Gresham, Victor Cruz, DeMarco Murray, Packers D/ST

5-2

W 136 - 83 @BPeople B People

My 136 points were good for league high score this week!

RB: Arian Foster ran for 115 yards, caught for 119, and scored 3 TDs, helping me to my 5th straight win.

We're deep into my strongest season on record, and it seems that after 3 years of toil and poor writing that I might actually be getting good at this!

ON THE BENCH WEEK 8: Roddy White (bye), Matt Forte (bye), Matt Schaub, Shonn Greene (bye), Matt Ryan (bye), Jermaine Gresham, Packers D/ST

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

4-2

W 76 - 55 @New York White People

QB: Cam Newton ran for a TD again this week, but didn't throw for one. SHP Matt Ryan, who threw for only 167 yards and 1 TD, but added a TD on the ground. Loss: 2 points.

RB: It was a slow week for my running backs; I played 3 of them for a combined 0 TDs. They all had good yards, both on the ground and by air, and it was enough for the win. This time.

D/ST: Dropped the Eagles' D this week in favor of the Bears. Chicago's D/ST recorded a TD and gave up only 10 points, making the switch a pretty good move for a guy who makes a lot of mistakes.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 7: TBA

Monday, October 10, 2011

3-2

W 122 - 118 @Todd's Ch0ad

Week 5 ended with a hard fought Lions/Bears MNF game, in which Matt Forte did enough to protect my fantasy lead against Javid Best and Lions' kicker Jason Hansen, by rushing for 117 yards and gaining another 35 by the air. Thanks Matt!

QB: Cam Newton came through big again, rushing for his 5th TD of the season, and throwing TDs 6 and 7. Back-up Matt Schaub tossed 400+ yards and 2 TDs, but also threw 2 INTs and fumbled. Atlanta's Matt Ryan just got flat out hammered in a 25-14 loss to Green Bay.

RB: The aforementioned Forte was a big part of my win this week, and just may be an early candidate for MVP of Team Blog this year. Not to be outdone, Arian Foster supplemented 68 yards on the ground with 116 yards receiving, and Shaun Greene rushed for 86 yards and a TD.

WR: Mid-week waiver-wire pick up Pierre Garcon lit it UP this week, more than cementing his place in my Week 6 line up - blasting Kansas City for 125 yards and 2 TDs! I might have played Deion Branch (74 yards, 1 TD) over Roddy White (50, 1) - but I'm not going to split hairs when it comes to starting the stud ATL receiver.

TE: Thanks to Jermaine Gresham for stepping in for Jason Witten (bye) this week. Gresham came through with 21 yards receiving and a big score.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 6: Matt Schaub, Matt Ryan, Reggie Bush, Devin Hester, Devery Henderson, Jermaine Gresham, Deion Branch

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

2-2

W 120 - 95 @Houston B0N3RZ

Arian Foster is back, and SO AM I! Foster ran for 155 yards and 1 TD, and along with Cam Newton and Matt Forte, catapulted me to my 2nd win this week.

RB: Shaun Greene continues to underperform; he ran 10x for a paltry 23 yards. SHP Reggie Bush who, despite underwhelming performances on par with Greene's, had a slightly better week than the Jets' RB: 50 yards and no scores.

Keeping it short this week; last week's entry was too long.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 5: Matt Schaub, Matt Ryan, Reggie Bush, Devin Hester, Jason Witten (bye), Cadilliac Williams, Deion Branch

Thursday, September 29, 2011

1-2

W 74 - 52 @Philadelphia Eagles Hater

While I scored a win in Week 3, it was hardly a performance worthy of much gloating up top. In the interest of full disclosure I will say here that my opponent played injured K.C. RB Jamaal Charles, who has not yet this year played, did not play, and will not play at all until 2012. In other words, I was playing a dummy team with no one at the helm and still was lucky to eek out a W.

QB: Matt Schaub had the big week I knew he was capable of when I drafted him as my first quarterback, throwing for 373 yards and 3 TDs. ...My third quarterback is recent wire acquisition Cam Newton, who I started instead of Schaub this week, and who threw for 160 yards and 1 TD. Loss: 10 points

LL*: Check the weather report before kickoff. Had I done this, I'dve expected heavy rain in Carolina and would've adjusted my roster accordingly.

RB: My friend said today, "Running backs are worthless this year," by which he meant teams are throwing a lot. It is only week 4 and 2 QBs have 1000+ yards! Matt Forte, who this week caught 7 passes for 80 yards, certainly gets thrown to a lot; his versatility as a back makes him a threat every week. Arian Foster (AFo) should be returning to form this week against the Steelers.

WR: Patriots' QB Tom Brady threw for over 400 yards again this week, only this time he did it without the help of my WR Deion Branch, who caught 0 passes. SHP Devin Hester (3, 65) Loss: 6 points

One more WR note: ATL's Roddy White may be battling an injured thigh according to the cryptic half-reporting of popular websites - as always, I'll be keeping my eye on the wire. See you again in 3 days.

ON THE BENCH WEEK 4: Matt Schaub (again), Matt Ryan, Shonn Greene, Reggie Bush, Hines Ward, Cadilliac Williams, 1 TBD

0-2

L 82-86 @cxxn Nxxsers

It's been a bad start to what still may be my best fantasy season ever. How's that for optimism! I lost this game at the last minute Sunday night, as the Eagles D/ST gave up just a few too many points to the high-flying Atlanta Falcons.

QB: Matt Schaub had a pedestrian day for fantasy owners, 230 yards, 2 TDs. Both my backups were better than that; Matt Ryan and "Killa" Cam Newton combined for 600+ yards and 6 TDs. Newton is likely to get the starts for the next few weeks. Loss: 9 points

RB: Arian Foster* a.k.a. AFo, making his hamstring-injury-delayed debut, didn't have the breakout game I hoped for today, carrying just 10 times for 33 yards. SHP Shonn Greene, who ran 16x for 49 yards and a score. Loss: 7 points

RB/WR: Reggie Bush was not a factor in Miami's offense this week. I may have to be more selective about playing Bush in the future. Devery Henderson was on my bench, and caught 3 balls for 103 yards and a TD. Loss: 15 points

ON THE BENCH WEEK 3: Matt Schaub, Matt Ryan, Devin Hester, Hines Ward, Cadillac Williams, 2 TBD

*Arian Foster left this game with a tight hamstring - whether he'll play Week 3 is uncertain. If he plays, he'll start on my team, today's performance not withstanding. Devotees of this blog will recall a mantra repeated early and often herein: You Gotta Play Your Studs."

Ultra Rare Mid-Week Post

RBArian Foster, Hou RB P

That "P" means Arian Foster will play Sunday. With A-Fo and Matt Forte in my backfield, there's little chance of me reporting any mistakes at RB on Monday. One and one, here we come!

L 86 - 96 @New Funswick Mangoes

Well, week 1 is over, and it was a tough loss for the Tuna Subs. Let's get right to it.

RB: My #1 pick Arian Foster has an injured hamstring, did not play week 1, and may or may not return for week 2. In his absence, the pressure is on back-up RBs Reggie Bush and Shonn Greene to step it up! Bush had a good game, with 80 multipurpose yards and a TD. Shonn Greene, on the other hand, got only a handful of carries in the Jets' pass heavy offense, and underperformed with only 25 yards.

SHP: Ricky Williams, Loss: 4 points

D/ST: I started the Giants D/ST in week 1, thinking they would come out strong against division rivals Washington. They didn't. Besides a fumble recovery, the Giants' D focused mostly on giving up scores.

SHP: Eagles D/ST, Loss: 11 points

ON THE BENCH WEEK 2 (as of Wed., 09/14): Matt Ryan, Cam Newton*, Shonn Greene, Cadillac Williams*, Devin Hester, Devery Henderson*, Hines Ward

* Player acquired by waiver claim or free agency

Season 3!

It's that time of year again! League of Bros III held its draft Wednesday night, and play began on Thursday! No one on my roster plays until Sunday...but, without further ado, here it is... the starting line-up for YOUR Rosati's Tuna Subs!

QB Matt Schaub, Hou
RB Arian Foster, Hou
RB Matt Forte, Chi
RB Shonn Green, NYJ
WR Roddy White, Atl
WR Deion Branch, NE
TE Jason Witten, Dal
D/ST Giants D/ST
K Neil Rackers, Hou

ON THE BENCH WEEK ONE: Matt Ryan, Austin Collie, Reggie Bush, Ricky Williams, James Jones*, Devin Hester, Eagles D/ST

*dropped to make room for the slightly more promising Derrick Mason, NYJ (waiver)

My week one match-up promises to be a good one, @NEW FUNSWICK MANGOES.

See you for the first Monday morning of the season!
